My name is Amélie Ladouceur and I am 11 years old. I am a fifth grade student at Le Sentier Elementary School. I would like to tell you all about my passion – my dream career. I want to become a doctor.

The Process
Since I was very young, I have been fascinated by the human body. I cannot wait to take high school biology classes. I always ask my parents questions about the human body. I try to understand the things that make us sick and how we can heal when we are sick. I have never been very sick in my life so I did not spend a lot of time in hospitals. In my opinion, health is very important and doctors are needed.

This year, I have been studying hard to get good grades so I can get accepted into a good high school. My ideal high school would be the École d’éducation internationale de Laval. Next year, I will take the entrance exam. I would like to study at Dawson College or Collège Montmorency in Pure and Applied Science. My dream is to study medicine at McGill University. I’ll just have to take the metro to go to school. I will be able to continue living with my parents during my studies.

It is not easy to get accepted into Medicine and to succeed in medical studies. It takes hard work and studying. I will have a lot of work to do. After my general studies in medicine, I will see if I want to study a specialty.

The Good Doctor
I watch television shows about doctors. My favourite shows are Grey’s AnatomyHouse and The Good Doctor. When I watch these shows, I always feel like I’m learning something new. I like all the doctors on these shows, even if they are different. To be a good doctor, you have to;

• Have good listening skills
• Have a good memory
• Be empathetic
• Keep up to date
• Be disciplined
• Speak clearly
• Write well
• Be available
• Be patient

For now, I’m working on these qualities. I think I would make an excellent doctor.
