My name is Kim William and soon I will be 12 years old. I am in the sixth grade and I attend Charles-Bruneau Elementary School. In this article, I will present my thoughts on electronic devices, the consequences they have and how to reduce the hours you spend in front of a screen.

Electronic devices are very popular and that's why I decided to write about them. When I was younger, I often played with a relative on my tablet, but over time, I realized that it was a bit like a drug. Fortunately, I did not continue on this path, but my playmate did. Whether it’s an electronic tablet or a game console, it’s still an addiction to devices.

How many of you reading this don’t look at your phone as soon as you wake up in the morning? Probably less than half. This is what many young people do. They text each other instead of talking to one another, even if they are in the same room. They let themselves be influenced by social networks and play games like Fortnite. Throughout the day, how often do you see a teen on his new iPhone? Does your child become violent and aggressive? As I wrote earlier, it's like a drug. It seems like nobody can spend a day without electronic devices. Before this gets any worse, we must find a way to fix this problem.

That said, I am not telling you to give up devices completely. Let's not forget that they can be useful, too. However, we must use electronic devices in moderation. We can learn a lot from the Internet and other applications, but we need to use our new technologies intelligently.

If you find your son or daughter spends too much time in front of screens and you do not know what to do, you can create rules and explain them calmly. Do you remember a time when none of this existed? Suggest a family activity, try a new hobby or go out for a walk. In short, find out what interests your child besides video games.

I'm talking to everyone reading this; would you be able to not look at screens for the whole day? If someone calls you? You tell me. Don’t tell me you have already disowned your good old phone (with or without a wire) because I won’t not believe you. You want to know what the weather will be like? You’ll have to watch the news the day before. Other questions? There are always solutions.

Now, the challenge is on; will you be able to not look at screens for an entire day?
