Children of different ages have different needs, interests and abilities. It’s important to keep your child’s age in mind when choosing a day camp you want him/her to attend.

Many schools in the greater Laval area offer different summer camp programs tailored to each age group.
Here is a variety of suggestions of different camps and activities for each age group.

The little ones – 4 to 8 years old

Younger children are still discovering the world and may not yet have specific interests. This is the best time for your little ones to discover a plethora of activities and explore their talents.

At the summer day camp in Music and Arts, offered by Lambda Music School and Fine Arts, children aged four and a half and up will get to explore their artistic side through music, fine arts, theatre, dance, and more in a professional environment. For some activities, they’ll be in classes with older children as well. For musical practice, individual classes are also available. Prices vary according to the duration of the child’s stay.

If arts are not their thing, you can enroll your child at Bricks 4 Kidz Summer camp. Through guided projects and free-play, kids 5 to 7 years old will learn around themes such as space, robotics, and amusement parks. Using LEGO® blocks, they’ll build model plans and create their own, overcome challenges and play games to develop their creative and thinking skills.

For the more active children, the Enfant et Compagnie day camp offers multi-sports programs for kids aged four and up. In addition, they offer outdoor activities, team sports and even yoga classes. The other three themes of the day camp are cooking, creative activities and scientific ones. The staff comprises trained teachers from the neighbourhood, and activities are supervised and structured to suit each child’s abilities and interests.

The grown-ups – 9 to 12 years old

Once children reach the “tween” age, they often have more specific interests. Summer time is the perfect time to further develop their newly found passion.

Does your child enjoy stargazing and want to know everything about space exploration? Why not enroll him at the Cosmodôme’s spatial day camp? Through arts and crafts, scientific workshops, cooperative games and spatial conquest history, campers will learn the ins and outs of the universe. If you’re willing to invest a little more for an in-depth experience, the Cosmodôme’s Atlantis and Endeavour Camps will accommodate your children for a few nights in International Space Station-like sleeping modules. During their stay, amongst other things, they’ll construct prototypes, experiment NASA-like training simulators, and even graduate at the end of their stay with a ceremony and the presentation of certificates.

For nature lovers, who want to be introduced to scout training, the Tamaracouta Scout Reserve offers a summer camp for Scout Groups but also for individual campers. Spending weeks away from home, your child will learn to be independent during a summer of fun in the sun. Experiencing activities like canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, archery and ecology, this could be a summer unlike any other for those in search of new challenges. Especially since they’ll sleep most of the nights in a tent!

The teenagers – 13 to 16 years old

Finally, the older ones may think they’re too old to attend summer camp. If regular camps don’t interest them, training camps where they’ll learn valuable working skills might be the answer.

At the Leonardo da Vinci Centre, your teenagers will learn to become active members of social change in their community. They’ll develop useful skills through several activities like CPR certification, aquatics, culinary classes and community service. They’ll become better team players, potential leaders and have a sense of accomplishment that will make them cherish the experience.

In the end, choosing an activity that best suits your child’s age as well as his/her interests is a great incentive for your child to wake up and happily prepare to go to camp in the morning. Lots of fun and great memories await your child!
