A great way to build your kids’ character is to get them to help you with chores around the house. Here are some outdoor chores ideas they will love to help you with.

Removing dandelions
Kids love these summer weeds because of their bright yellow color and long petals. These flower heads mature into spherical seed heads called "blowballs" which look like cotton balls. Kids will have fun by picking them themselves while making a beautiful bouquet of dandelions.

Watering the garden
Children love water, that’s a known fact! This would be a great time to help them develop a green thumb while they help you water the plants in your vegetable or fruit garden. Kids learn by example, so pique their curiosity by telling them the names of each flower or vegetable and what they’re good for. Not only will they learn about the flora in your backyard but they’ll relieve you of this outdoor chore. Once they’re finished with this task, let them have fun by spraying each other. Don’t forget to put on some sunscreen.

Planting flowers, vegetables or fruits
Children are curious creatures, so arm them with garden tools when you’re repotting flowers or planting new ones. Let them participate so they can feel useful. They’ll be fascinated by the whole process. Why not dedicate a corner of your garden for a specific plant of their choice or even choose a nice garden pot?

Collecting fruits from trees
If you have a fruit tree (or several), you’re very familiar with the never-ending process of picking up the fallen fruits once season starts. Ask your kids to join you on this activity and explain to them that these fruits will make nice jams and tarts!

Pool Skimming
Younger kids can get comfortable on a water float (wearing a life jacket) while the older ones can skim using a net from the side of the swimming pool. As a bonus, you can start showing them how to do pool maintenance so they can take over when they are old enough!

Sweeping around the house
Just give them a broom adapted to their little hand and organize a contest to see who sweeps up the biggest mountain of leaves in the shortest amount of time! They can also help hold the garbage bag while you get rid of it all!

Washing the car
Kids, especially boys, love washing the car! Put some soap on a small sponge and let them rub the tires and the windows and give them the hose to rinse it all down. Reward them with an ice cream cone!

Cleaning the windows
Kids absolutely love anything that involves water! A sponge and a bucket of soapy water, and they’ll be on their way to having some wet fun while you get your windows cleaned.

Hanging clothes on the clothesline
If they are still little, they can simply help you by handing you the clothespins and the clothes while the older ones can actually hang the clothes, giving you a much deserved break!

Taking care of the dog
Families who have dogs know what entails to take care of a pet. Ask your older kids to walk the dog and pick up after it. The little ones can be in charge of grooming it.
