Have you heard? It’s Laval’s 50th anniversary and the festivities have already started, and are far from over. Fun-filled events like the Water Theatre at Centropolis and Rivière en fête are sure to please the whole family. So make sure you don’t miss out on the action!

This summer’s grand event; Laval, terre d’îles!

From June 24 to August 6, at Centropolis’ Place du 50e, an impressive 35-minute visual journey called Laval, terre d’îles will transport you through the city’s great history. The projection of videos, vintage photos, laser effects and animations on a 60-metre long liquid wall and 20-metre high jets of water are bound to take your breath away!

Discover the fascinating world of water theatre as you explore geological history and flora and fauna, the emergence of early humans and the development of the first communities that settled in Laval. This historical narrative will heighten your senses and offer a touch of fantasy in an impressive display of thousands of colours and great beauty created by the ballet of fountains, water effects and laser beams dancing to the soundtrack of compelling melodies.

Twenty-four free performances are scheduled throughout the summer. Prior to each show there will be a musical performance or some activities for the whole family. This flagship event of the 50th anniversary celebrations will be orchestrated by Laser Quantum, a local pioneer and leader in laser show production.

Fun and games on the waterfront!

On June 13, gather the whole family for Rivière en fête, an event that will take place in the heart of Laval’s scenic borough of Old Sainte-Rose. The Berge des Baigneurs will welcome kids and adults alike in a quest to uncover the splendours of the Mille Îles River and all it has to offer.

Watch on as enthusiasts participate in canoe and rabaska races or satisfy your curiosity by trying out various types of boats (kayak, canoe, dragon boat, paddle board). On the riverbank, you will find entertainment and information booths, musicians, a fair, a magic show, street entertainers, face painting and drawing stations. Water buffs are also invited to take part in the great communal river descent, a 16-kilometre stretch punctuated with historical and entertaining stops along the way.

These events are only a few examples of what you can expect this summer as part of the city’s anniversary celebrations. For details and a complete schedule of activities, visit www.50ans.laval.ca.
