Laval is definitely a must-go destination for families looking for educational outings. Museums, exhibitions, interpretation centres, Laval has it all for those who want to learn while having fun. Tourisme Laval gives you an overview of some of Laval’s major attractions.

First stop the Cosmodôme, the only museum dedicated to astronautics and space in Canada. This year the Cosmodôme invested $10.5 million in a brand-new exhibition. Forget museums as you know them! The Cosmodôme’s environment is fully digitalized with touch screens, GPS bracelets, interactive games and never-seen-before videos. Visitors can choose between three missions; Mars, the Red Planet, The Outer Limits of the Cosmos (our solar system), and the Impossible Dream (or the history of space exploration). As they travel from room to room, visitors make interesting discoveries and learn about information that will help them carry out their missions. The exhibition is relevant, amazing and extremely well thought-out.

Next let’s head to the Armand-Frappier Museum where the micro world inhabitants – the microorganisms – are the stars of the exhibition! A permanent exhibition allows families to discover the roles, benefits and dangers of these microorganisms. The exhibition guides, who are true biology specialists, master the art of popularizing scientific notions. In fact, the Armand-Frappier Museum is the only one in Quebec that is dedicated to biosciences. It offers four scientific camps where youths 7 to 15 years old are introduced s to microbiology, biotechnology and toxicology, among other things, thanks to a practice-focused approach. One thing is for sure; they will learn how a microscope works!

Our next stop is at the C.I.EAU (Water Interpretation Centre). The C.I.EAU which is located in Old Sainte-Rose water treatment plant immerses visitors in the fascinating world of “blue gold." The museum traces the amazing journey of water, from the river to the tap, and explains water recycling, production and distribution. Younger visitors will even have the chance to transform raw water into drinkable water during a fun learning activity. In addition, the C.I.EAU features a brand-new Rally of the Rivers. Laval residents and visitors are invited to take an information booklet and go from one information terminal to the next to learn about Laval’s river banks. This is assuredly an effective learning and awareness activity.
