In grade five and six, students learn about different careers. In my grade six distance learning class, we have been talking a bit about entrepreneurs. I decided to interview my aunt, who is known for her cookie decorating skills.

Sara Germanotta is a writer, blogger and self-taught baker. She is the creator and owner of the blog, “Sara’s Baking Blog”.

In January 2017, about three years ago, Sara discovered how much she loves baking. Since Sara loved baking so much, she started baking amazing treats, developing recipes, and testing those recipes. She decided to share her recipes on her blog, for everyone to enjoy.

Although Sara never went to professional baking school, she did study journalism which taught her how to write very well. This has helped her with her blog. When she was younger her favourite school subjects were English, French and History.

Sara is quite successful with her baking and her blog because she is curious, creative, and not afraid of making mistakes. She also really enjoys what she does and wishes it was full-time instead of a part-time job.

There are some wonderful benefits to Sara’s job. She gets to be very creative, make people happy, and she does make a bit of money selling her cookies, but that's not the most important thing. Sara also really likes it when a cookie she makes turns out exactly how she pictured it in her head. She loves getting feedback from others about her cookies and cupcakes. Sara knows a lot of other people with the same career as her. Sara looks at all of them as friends, not competition. She said, “No, I don’t look at them as competition, I consider them friends because we learn from each other, and we share ideas and tips.”

Sara’s advice for anyone who wants to start a career like hers is, don't give up, don't get discouraged, try to get inspiration from people you admire, be open-minded, try new things, don’t be afraid of making mistakes and learn as much as you can.

I’m pretty sure that we can all agree, Sara’s job sounds pretty sweet! Check out her beautiful creations at https://sarasbakingblog.com.
