West Island College recently adopted a new strategic plan leading up to the school’s 50th anniversary in 2024.

“We are building on the last two years of leadership, perseverance, and momentum, underpinned by 48 years of excellence, to embark on the next phase of our school’s journey,” explains Eric Jabal, Head of School.

WIC’s strategic plan highlights lessons learned during the pandemic that emerged out of an interconnected world full of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity.  Based on those lessons and in line with where WIC wants to be by its 50th anniversary, a three-pronged focus has emerged for the school:

  • Physical wellness and well-being
  • Teaching, learning and caring
  • Experiential education in the wider curriculum

To meet these demands head-on, WIC is investing over $2M so that students will return to school in the fall of 2022 with an exciting new campus.

WIC will be transforming the entire outdoor space, giving rise to a beautiful new campus environment, including vastly improved safety and traffic flow, a new outdoor basketball court and fitness circuit, outdoor classroom, and the re-wilding of the recently acquired land to provide experiential learning spaces.

“Now, more than ever, students need places to gather and exercise, places to explore, and places symbolic of change, forward movement and the path to an exciting future,” says Jabal. “The generosity of the WIC community has made this amazing initiative possible, and we are forever grateful.”
