Laurentia Elementary School Daycare is quite unique here in Ste-Jérome. Our small group of daycare students considers itself “family”.

Daycare students especially appreciate Ped Days because most of them are outings and the students get to interact and bond with one another outside of a school setting. This is quite important in a child’s development and most of all the students enjoy themselves!

Our Ped Day of February 9th was held at the Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides. The students visited the various art expositions, participated in discussions and observation games and finished by creating a personal art piece. The sculpting workshop involved the students manipulating a clay-like material using their hands and small tools to produce a hybrid animal. What is a hybrid animal? It is the offspring of two different animals. Have you ever seen a Wolfupine, an Octophant, a Cowgaroo or a Liger? The students definitely revealed their artistic side!

On February 13th, Laurentia Daycare students attended the Glissade des Pays d’En Haut in Piedmont for a fun-filled day of tubing. Wow!It was exciting and the students loved the adrenaline rush from gliding down the runs. I think that the adults enjoyed it just as much! Despite the frigid temperature, the day proceeded very smoothly thanks to our well-behaved students, hard-working educators and helpful parent volunteers. On that day, met up with one of our sister schools, Pinewood, which was an unexpected surprise.

This upcoming Ped Day on May 29th, Laurentia Daycare students together with daycare students from Franklin Hill, Hillcrest, Mountainview, Pinewood and Twin Oaks will participate in our first annual Daycare Jamboree. Daycare Students from all six elementary schools will attend at Parc Le Domaine Vert where they will finally meet and then participate in outdoor activities together. Meanwhile, the daycare students from the six schools are sending each other Pen Pal letters and are passing around an ongoing storybook. I can’t wait to read the final product of this wonderful team effort!

Daycare educators play an integral part in the development of a child. Not only do they ensure the security and well-being of a child, but they get to play with them too!
