Beginning high school may be an overwhelming experience for many students. Nikki De Crescenzo, founder of 1 Step Ahead, understands this intimidating transition and the importance of giving students the opportunity to voice any questions and concerns that they may have about beginning this new chapter of their lives.

As a teacher and academic tutor, Crescenzo often helps students prepare for the increased academic demands upon entering Secondary I. By previewing future concepts students will encounter in the following year, she hopes to give students the confidence to succeed in their new surroundings. In order to better prepare students, she decided to open an educational summer camp, specially designed for students entering high school.

For a period of three weeks during the summer vacation, 1 Step Ahead will engage students in academic and recreational activities designed to prepare them for Secondary I. Alongside certified teachers, Crescenzo hopes to develop and foster independence, self-confidence, and self-esteem in a group setting. Students will be encouraged to ask questions and share concerns that they might have over this intimating transition, in a supportive environment. Current high school students will also be invited to share their experiences and answer questions. With 1 Step Ahead, students can be certain that they begin high school on the right foot.
