Since 2015, the Fête du quartier Saint-Bruno is organized by the City of Laval in collaboration with Alzheimer Society Laval, whose offices are located in the neighborhood.

“The Fête du quartier allows families to meet, get to know each other and have fun together. It also helps to raise funds for Alzheimer's disease and neurodegenerative diseases,” explains Lise Lalande, General Director of Alzheimer Society Laval. “It's very important to us because 40 <>percentage<> of our budget is self-funding, so the event really helps us to offer quality services to the population.”

Though the event is free, Alzheimer Society Laval raises funds with the rental of booths by local businesses and by the publicity featured in the event program that's distributed to citizens' doors. “It's a collective effort,” says Lalande of the fundraising aspect of the event.

For the Fête du quartier to run smoothly, 60 to 100 volunteers will be helping out Alzheimer Society Laval. “It's people that we know and that've helped us before,” says Lalande.

The family event is open to everyone. For kids, many activities are offered, including inflatable games, painting and a train. For adults, there will be a diversity of kiosks offering information on many services, and for everyone, there will be food and beverages sold at an affordable price.

“The event allows citizens to get better acquainted with Vimont businesses and to meet Alzheimer Society Laval,” says Jean Rousselle, Deputy of Vimont. “It's a rallying event for the neighborhood of Saint-Bruno. People get out their houses and meet with their neighbours, who they don't always have time to see.”

Rousselle will be present at the August event with his team, his parents, his wife and his grandkids. “There's something for everyone. I encourage people of the neighborhood to come by.”

Besides Alzheimer Society Laval, the event is also organized by the City of Laval. “The City will be present to make sure that the streets are closed and that the police officers are there”, explains David De Cotis, municipal councillor for Saint-Bruno and Deputy Mayor of Laval. “It's a family outing to enjoy the beautiful summer weather in a safe environment, and to enjoy a sense of community. At the same time, all the money raised goes to Alzheimer Society,” he says.

According to De Cotis, the fourth edition of the Fête du quartier Saint-Bruno should be particularly busy. “Last year, we had 5000 people. We are expecting about the same number this year,” he says.

The Fête du quartier Saint-Bruno will take place on Saturday, August 4th, from noon to 5 p.m., at Parc de Lausanne.
