2018 is a very special year for Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé. We are celebrating our 40th anniversary! Forty years of taking care of our patients, day and night. Forty years of welcoming newborn babies and accompanying the elderly to the end of their lives, of taking care of small bumps and bruises as well as major injuries…of celebrating life while also accepting its limits.

So many things have changed in 40 years! Your hospital widened its net with new programs and services; the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de Laval brings together 32 points of service and almost 10 000 employees. With the CISSS de Laval, there is also the Fondation Cité de la Santé that contributes to the improvement of care and services in its establishments, thanks to your donations.

The Fondation allows for the acquisition of modern medical equipment, the improvement of quality of life for our patients, training and development of our professional medical staff, financing of medical research as well as improvements to infrastructure.

The Impact of Your Donations in 2017-2018
Last year, whether it was through monthly donations or major donations, your contribution to our fundraising efforts such as the défi vélo 300 km pour la VIE or la Loto-Voyage, you helped take care of people. Here are a few projects that were completed, thanks to you.

Welcoming Our Little Ones in a Safe Environment
On average, more than 4000 babies are born at Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé every year, and more than 600 of them are admitted to the Neonatal Unit. For the safety of our newborns, the Fondation was able to purchase an intra-bone penetrator and a cardio-respiratory monitor with the appropriate cables and support for the nursery. This equipment allows for better monitoring and access to intravascular veins when necessary. The cost of this equipment was more than $25 000 and was made possible by citizens’ mobilization and participation in the 2017 Fête de quartier Val-des-Brises.

More Services for Patients in the West
In the last five years, the demand for services in our four CLSC’s has significantly increased, especially in the western parts of Laval where the needs are ever-increasing. Thanks to the Fondation, the CISSS de Laval has been able to begin deployment of infrastructures and equipment to help adequately serve the Laval population that lives west of Highway 13, at the CLSC de l’Ouest-de-l’Île ($86 000).

Thanks to you, almost a million dollars were given to the CISSS de Laval this year. These funds finance innovative projects that improve the health and well-being of Lavallers, contribute to research, allow for the acquisition of medical equipment and so much more.
