Christine Gauthier has shown her entrepreneurial spirit for the past few years already, but it is her latest work that led her to receive Bell’s Coup de coeur bursary for a new generation of entrepreneurs, offered by the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Laval (CCIL).

This bursary rewards a budding entrepreneur or a professional who has distinguished themselves in the past year, either through social or community involvement, or through showing initiative in supporting their community.

“This prize means a lot to me. It is recognition by my peers in the business community. Beyond the honour of receiving the prize itself, this experience is both flattering and very appreciated,” says Gauthier, who began her career as an entrepreneur in the world of dance about a year ago.

Her business started to take off once she found a front-gabled building for her business, Studio Mundo Danse, which drew in both Laval residents and people from other cities. Cultural diversity is greatly promoted in her dance studio. Gauthier says dance is a universal language that helps create connection.

For Women, By Women
Gauthier’s creation of a networking group for female entrepreneurs was one of the reasons she was awarded Bell’s Coup de coeur bursary. Once a month, a group of about 15 businesswomen meet for breakfast and discuss a variety of topics.

“It creates a buzz, much stronger than I could have imagined. I’ve had experiences where I have had to run after entrepreneurs for advice. Networking is extremely important and precious,” explains Gauthier, who showcases these women on a bulletin board in her dance studio and on her website.

In addition to her strong commitment to business, Gauthier also believes that community involvement in her neighbourhood is essential. Her dance studio participates in a number of neighbourhood parties and is a quintessential part of the Laval community.
