The Fondation Cité de la Santé and the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de Laval are working on a dozen projects that are in desperate need of support from local businesses and citizens. These projects concern our vulnerable youth and our seniors, developments in entertainment and sports for our clientele, a reorganization of facilities for people living with intellectual disabilities and the acquisition of new medical equipment.

Projects for Our Vulnerable Youth
In close collaboration with the Fondation du Centre de jeunesse de Laval, the Fondation Cité de la Santé wishes to support the 700 young people housed in our Centre de protection de l’enfance et de la jeunesse (CPEJ). We have already begun an innovative and inspiring project, the CLÉ project. This project encourages young people getting out of the CPEJ to continue their education and aims to support them. This initiative, successful in Montérégie, started in Laval in Fall 2018, but requires the support of financial partners to continue. Nearly $80,000 is needed each year to support these young people and help push them toward success.

At the same time, we would like to continue the work of developing and improving calming activities for young people aged three to 18 living at the CPEJ. Often struggling with behavioural problems or difficulties in socializing, they would greatly benefit from specially designed rooms to calm down, let off steam and regain their self-control.

Healthier Living Habits for Our Elderly Residents
Independent seniors would benefit greatly from more sports activities in our day centres. Maintien de l’Autonomie et de la Santé chez les Ainés à Laval (MASA) is a program that introduces physical activity to independent seniors who wish to be more active in their community. This program was set up by the Groupe Promo Santé Laval (GPSL), a community group working with seniors. The Fondation Cité de la Santé wishes to support this ambitious project, which needs somewhere around $50,000 per year.

Renovations at Résidence Louise-Vachon
People living with serious behavioural disorders are housed at the Unité Tournesol of Résidence Louise-Vachon. Renovations are needed to make the residence safer and more enjoyable for beneficiaries and their families. Renovations are needed in bathrooms, living spaces and the outdoor terrace, just to name a few. An investment of abour $300,000 is needed for these essential renovations.

Advanced Medical Equipment
The operating unit of Cité-de-la-Santé Hospital is one of the most advanced in Quebec. Nevertheless, some surgeries are longer and in some cases, postoperative recovery is slower given the lack of certain equipment. The Fondation Cité de la Santé is looking for investments that add up to $128,500 for the purchase of three crucial devices; a bladder scan machine, a microscope for minor surgeries and four programmable infusion pumps.

After a stroke, patients require constant heart rate monitoring for at least 48 hours. The hospital’s stroke unit does not currently have the technology to do that. A donation of $50,000 would allow for the purchase of six cardiac telemetry devices. This is a huge step forward for the nearly 200 patients admitted each year after suffering strokes.
