Each electric bus cuts annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 70 to 80 tons.
First fully electric bus route scheduled for Fall 2020. The first of 10 electric buses commissioned by the Société de transport de Laval in 2018 has arrived! This pre-production model will be used to test the bus and its features before producing the remaining nine units. Watch for it on Laval roads.

Faster-charging vehicles!
The STL’s new electric buses have a range of 250 km and will charge overnight at the garage.

A full battery charge requires about three and a half hours. These buses have twice the range and charge three times faster than the model purchased in 2012 as part of a pilot project.

Better for us and the planet
In addition to delivering a quieter and therefore more comfortable ride, each electric bus cuts annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 70 to 80 tons. All STL buses will be electric by 2040, which will help fight climate change. Also, because public transit reduces road congestion, that means even fewer GHGs in Laval. By comparison, the average Quebecer generates around 10 tons of GHGs a year.

New bus, new garage!
Electric buses require facilities and maintenance methods that differ from other bus types. Which is why the STL is expanding its garage as part of its ongoing plans to electrify its network. The new facility is expected to open in 2024.

Good news for Laval residents
An initial study conducted in early 2019 shows riders welcome the idea of an electric STL bus fleet. In fact, 67<>percentage<> of respondents said an electrified public tran- sit system would spur them to take the bus more often. As for the benefits of electric buses deemed most significant; lower greenhouse gas emissions (54.5<>percentage<>) and better air quality (37.9<>percentage<>).

The STL has yet to determine which of its bus routes will be the first to be 100<>percentage<> electric, but it is looking at options focused on residential and commercial areas as a way of introducing this improved means of transportation to as many Laval residents as possible.
