Job Search Clubs exist! And yes, they are still an effective way to unite job seekers, break isolation and share the trials and tribulations of searching for that next career opportunity.

A job search today is not what it was 20 years ago. With the vast population turning to those ever-so-popular job websites such as Indeed or Jobilico and creating professional profiles with LinkedIn or Glassdoor, our focus has now turned to how exactly to stand out; to be recognized in a sea of qualified candidates.

We look to be more visible and create networking opportunities, where diversity in job-seeking techniques plays a big role in furthering our candidacy.  Networking  is still the number one way to find employment and Laval’s Groupe Priorité Travail Job Search Club has been helping Anglo- phone job seekers do just that for over 20 years.

Our interactive group workshops help participants finetune their techniques and connect with other job seekers. Being prepared, consistently applying and having a positive attitude are considered key elements to a successful job search.

The most common comment from job seekers is that of feeling alone and isolated, that those inter- view rejections or unanswered applications have somehow become personal.

Past  participants  often  say  that  following the club gave them structure, motivation and accountability  for  their  daily  actions.  Whether you are looking at a job hunt for the first time, or if it’s something you have faced in the past, the topics, discussions and information given offers something for everyone.

Our participants come from all walks of life. It’s not just about finding a job, it’s about people hel- ping people, connecting and offering moral sup- port and positive reinforcement at a time where it can make all the difference.

There is no magic wand that can be waved to eliminate  all that a job search encompasses, however, there is the sharing of information and experiences that can help people better understand what employers are looking for and how to make the most of every application we send. A wide variety of subjects are discussed. For example, how to sell the qualities we have, and which ones do we focus on? Are presentation letters still the norm? And what do we write in them? Picture? No picture? What are the expectations of employers and how to read job offers, do they really want those five years of experience?

By joining our Job Search Club, you can challenge yourself and learn to put your best foot forward in a proactive, motivating and learning environment. A job search is temporary for most, but the job search tools and techniques can serve us throughout our professional lifetime.
