The period for renewing your OPUS card with photo ID at a ticket office is August 1 through October 31. Follow these tips to avoid making it a whole day thing!
Golden rule
Don’t wait for the deadline. Go early, otherwise the longer you wait, the longer the lineups.
1. Be informed
You will obviously need documents proving you’re a student and ID showing your age. Does the application form need your parents’ signature? Do you require a letter of attestation from your school? What pieces of ID are accepted? Consult the checklist at STLaval.ca/studentszone.
2. Be prepared
Once you know the procedure, gather all the paperwork you need. Make sure;
- you’re bringing valid ID
- your application form and school attestation are date stamped within the last 30 days
- you check the business hours of the ticket office nearest you
- you have $15 for your card
3. Be there
The time has come to go to the ticket office for your card! Hats or caps are not allowed in the picture, so if how your hair looks is important to you, keep that in mind before you leave the house. Pick a ticket office, either the one inside the Montmorency terminal or the Cartier terminal. They both offer the same service, although FYI, the Cartier ticket office always has smaller lineups ;-) Once there, the onsite staff will guide you along.
4. Buy your pass or tickets
Done! You’re ready to buy the type of fare you want, individual trip tickets or monthly pass. Did you know? Monthly passes go on sale as of the 20th the previous month, both at our ticket offices or any of the 40 other points of sale across Laval. It’s a smart way to make sure you’re always topped up by the 1st of the month. In summer, your card with photo ID also entitles you to purchase an XTRA pass, so you can ride the bus very inexpensively all of July and August. Renewing your OPUS card with photo ID is simple when you prepare in advance. We love it when students can avoid wasting time in line for their picture. But you need to bring the right documents to help speed up the process as much as possible. Ultimately, think of it as renewing your passport, except it’s for getting to ride the bus for less!
Editor's note; Since the situation with COVID-19 has shaken up activities, visit STLaval.ca to be sure that the procedure has not changed.
