1980. Réné-Lévesque is the Premier of Quebec. Starmania makes its debut in Montreal. Guy Lafleur scores 125 points for the Canadiens de Montréal. In Laval, Fondation Cité de la Santé is created.

Originally dedicated to the hospital, the Foundation evolved over time with the growth of the population and changes to our healthcare system. Today, the Foundation serves more than 450 000 people, supported and cared for across the 32 installations that make up the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de Laval (CISSS de Laval).

A #ProfoundlyHuman Organization
For 40 years, the mission of the Fondation Cité de la Santé has remained the same; to contribute to the improvement of care and services offered, in health and wellness, on Laval’s territory. Every year, almost two million dollars are given to the CISSS de Laval to finance the purchase of medical equipment, but also to allow for the realization of projects that improve services for users at all level of health care.

“We’re often seen as the hospital’s Foundation that makes it possible to purchase medical equipment such as a scanner. But since the creation of the CISSS, we do much more than that!” says André Malacket, General Director of the Foundation since 2017. “We help finance leisure activities in our CHSLD’s; we support vulnerable youth to pursue post-secondary education, in partnership with the Fondation du Centre jeunesse de Laval, and many more! This is all thanks to thousands of donors who take part in this altruistic movement, this #ProfoundlyHuman movement.”

An Unprecedented Crisis
Since last March, our Foundation has been in the eye of an unprecedented tornado when it comes to health and social services. COVID-19 has weakened our communities, created uncertainty and put the CISSS de Laval’s personnel to the test.

Faced with these challenges, more than 2000 donors responded to the call by contributing to the COVID-19 Emergency Fund. The Foundation was able to act quickly to provide crucial help. Here are just a few examples;

  • The purchase of two portable ultrasound machines for the hospital’s Emergency ward;
  • The launch of a vast recognition campaign for health care workers; videoclips called Dans l’arc-en-ciel www.danslarcenciel.com;
  • The purchase of electronic tablets for seniors in CHSLD’s

At the start of a second wave,  there are still so many needs!
“We are ready to face the virus again! Thanks to the Foundation’s donors, we are well prepared, and we know that we can count on their support if new needs emerge,” says Dr. Isabelle Croteau, an emergency doctor at Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé for the past 25 years.

Take Part in the #ProfoundlyHuman Movement
To respond to urgent needs both in the day-to-day and during a pandemic, Fondation Cité de la Santé invites you to take part in the vast #ProfoundlyHuman movement across the territory of Laval.

Because we all care about health.

It’s essential for us all to flourish. It’s both a strong force and large shared responsibility.

Because we all play a role in health.

We all have a mother to accompany, a significant other to support, a colleague to comfort, a brother to help out, or a child to see grow up.

Because we all rely on health.

It dictates our ability to react.

You need it in order to take on entrepreneurship, be active in your community, start a family, integrate into your community or pursue studies.

Because we all win if we have our health.
It’s our biggest collective wealth, source of dynamic energy and prosperity. We have to preserve it, so we can achieve together.

A Virtual & Successful Biking Challenge
The participants of the 13th Annual Défi vélo 300 km pour la VIE weren’t able to bike to and from Laval and Trois-Rivières in the traditional way this year. That said, not even COVID-19 could stop their desire to support cancer patients! The virtual version of the event that took place from June 12th to September 12th raised a net sum of $95  000 for Laval’s Cancer Program.

The Foundation thanks all participants, donors, volunteers and our generous partners; Guimond Construction, l’AMOL, Bicycles Quilicot and Physiothérapie Universelle.

See you in 2021!
