Are your job search strategies up to date? Not sure? Groupe Priorité Travail can help!

Everyone has an opinion when it comes to seeking employment and whether we want it or not, we are often privy to random and sometimes conflicting advice and suggestions. It does not matter if you are facing unemployment for the first time or if it has become something of a regular occurrence, there are steps one can take to help reduce the stress, confusion and sometimes lack of confidence one can experience.

For many, the answers to most questions can be found with a simple click of the mouse. With the Internet offering an abundance of resources; from resume samples, best job seeking method, to tips and tricks on how to pass those interviews and questions, knowing what information to use, how to use it and when, is not always clear.

Most candidates admit to waiting too long before asking for help, thinking only of reaching out to employability services, or for professional guidance as a last resort. This hesitation, for some, means a prolonged job search or acceptance of a less desirable position. There is more to it then sending out resumes, creating profiles or visiting your favorite job posting site. It’s about being proactive, invested and committed. Regardless of the time of year, whether you are seeking a new employment challenge or looking to reintegrate into the labour market, the counsellors at Groupe Priorité Travail have been supporting, guiding and teaching best job search practices to Laval residents for over 22 years.

Services are pre-paid for by Service Québec and comprise of both group and individual programs designed for all levels of professionals both English and French-speaking. Appointments and group meetings are held both in person and virtually, making it easier to access the help needed. There is no magical solution that can eliminate all that a job search encompasses. There is, however, the sharing of information and experiences that can help people better understand what employers are looking for and how to make the most of every application sent.

Thinking you might need help? What about a job search club, where individuals meet to discuss and improve their techniques? The group offers workshops, networking advice and Zoom meetings. Our offices are open and accepting clients from 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Thursday and by phone appointment on Fridays.

Sometimes the best advice can come from someone who barely knows you. As funny as that sounds, it can actually be true. In order for an employment counsellor to understand how to best help you, you have to be able to convey your thoughts and experiences clearly. This often helps a job seeker better their communication skills, allowing them to more easily present themselves to employers. Diversity is key to any job search and expanding our repertoire of tools can keep us from loosing momentum. Make connecting with us your new thing to do today.
