Parrainage Civique Lanaudière is a community organization whose mission is to encourage the integration and social participation of those living with a permanent disability. Through the services of its dedicated volunteers, PCL has been offering accompaniment, listening and support, creating awareness and social transformation since 1988.

Parrainage Civique matches up volunteers with those requesting accompaniment. As much as possible, the personal styles and preferences of both parties are taken into account as well as their geographic locations, so that the match will be compatible. Volunteers may offer their services either on a regular or occasional basis according to their comfort level and availabilities. Parrainage Civique takes the time to get to know their volunteers, to make sure that they have received all the training and support necessary. The volunteers generally enjoy helping out their fellow community members and find that the time spent with them is very rewarding.

Think about it. Just a few hours of your time can improve another person’s life; feel recognized, liked and appreciated; develop his power to make choices; learn new things; increase his social contacts; participate in different activities...to sum it up, you will help empower him! Volunteers participate in different activities with the person living with a disability; friendly visits, walks or grocery shopping together, going out for a coffee or bowling, playing a board game...any ideas are good ideas as long as they agreed upon by both participants. Not to worry; volunteers are not expected to spend money and may even be reimbursed in certain cases for their gas and travel expenses.
